TOKYO, July 14, 2011—Canon Inc. and Canon Marketing Japan Inc. today announced the introduction in Japan of the new PowerShot A3300 IS compact digital camera, which incorporates a full range of fully automatic imaging features and a Live View Control function enabling even entry-level users to easily adjust various photo settings. In addition to a 16.0-megapixel image sensor—the highest pixel count to be offered by a Canon compact digital camera—the A3300 IS includes HD video capabilities, allowing users to enjoy shooting both high-quality still images and videos.
The Canon PowerShot A3300 IS offers the same exceptional basic features as its predecessor, the PowerShot A3200 IS released in February 2011. Capable of identifying 32 shooting scenes, the PowerShot A3300 IS’s Smart Auto function includes Advanced Subject Detection, which automatically detects and tracks non-human subjects, such as pets and vehicles, to ensure subjects are in focus and properly exposed. The new model also features Smart FE (Flash Exposure), which determines optimal flash strength depending on the shooting conditions.
By using a simple slide-bar tool displayed on the camera’s 3.0-inch LCD monitor, Live View Control allows users of any level to easily adjust and confirm exposure, white balance, contrast, sharpness and other settings, which are displayed on the monitor in such easy-to-understand terms as brightness, vividness and color tone. The Canon PowerShot A3300 IS also includes image stabilizing technology and a Dynamic mode that compensates for camera shake from shooting while walking.
The new PowerShot A3300 IS comes equipped with a wide-angle 28 mm* 5x optical zoom lens and high-performance DIGIC 4 image processor, and offers such features as a Discrete mode that disables the flash and all camera sounds for shooting without unnecessary noise or distraction. It also includes creative photo settings, including a Fisheye Effect and Toy Camera Effect, and a movie function enabling the recording of HD 1,280 x 720 video at 30 fps and the shooting of Miniature Effect movies for increased video enjoyment.
Employing high-quality aluminum in both the front and back covers, the Canon PowerShot A3300 IS features a stylish body design available in three color variations: silver, pink and blue.
The Canon PowerShot A3300 IS will be available in Japan from August 4, 2011, at an open price. Canon has set initial production at 250,000 units per month.
