No entiendo nada
iStock - Royalty Statement Clarification
February 20, 2017 Statement
The February 20th statement had several issues so we thought it would be helpful to run through them to help you understand what is showing in your statement.
Text Corrections & Republished Statement
We will be republishing the February 20th statement with two corrections:
For credit pack sales for Exclusive artists, the calculations were correct and based on your Exclusive rate, which is displayed in the column heading named 'Royalty Rate'. The error was that we displayed your exclusivity status as non-exclusive.
- The exclusivity status column was incorrect for Exclusive artists and has now been corrected.
- The missing file type for each transaction has been added.
You will be able to view the republished statement by visiting the export tab within the Royalties section of Account Management.
Zero royalty rate percentage transactions
In preparation for the move to the new royalties systems, we ran several months of test transactions in the live environment. In a small number of cases, we were not able to remove all these test transactions.
If you sort your statement by invoice number, you will see a pattern of a negative amount in the License Fee column at 0% royalty rate followed by a positive license fee with a royalty calculated at your correct rate.
For example:
Invoice Number 123-456 for $-2.90489 at 0 royalty = Test data
Invoice Number 123-456 for $2.90489 at 0.20 royalty = Correct royalty
We do not expect you to see 0% transactions for future statements.
Low Volume of Subscription Transactions
Up until cut-over, we were calculating subscriptions using a flat rate but the new model, where you earn your true royalty percentage, requires that we calculate the price per file for each download within the subscription term. That price cannot be calculated until the subscription term ends, which can be at any time in the month.
This fundamental shift in how we calculate your earnings for subscription transactions means that for the first month in the new system, you may be seeing fewer transactions than expected.
At the end of December, we had to split any subscription packages that bridged December and January which means a portion were paid using the flat rate model (transactions in December) and a portion were paid using the new price per file model (transactions in January). Flat rate payments were made on iStock.com on January 25th for December transactions. For this February statement, you are only seeing the price per file transactions that happened in January from those bridge subscriptions.
For any subscriptions where the subscription term ends in February, all of the transactions for that subscription month will be reflected on the March statement and payment.
Increased Tax
As you can see in your statement, we track and identify the country or region for each reported sale. US transactions normally account for 50% of transactions but we are seeing an issue where all credit pack sales were reported as originating in the US.
US source transactions are subject to withholding tax, depending on your country of residence. This resulted in incorrect tax withholding for these transactions.
Summary
We are working to solve these issues for future transactions, and to identify every contributor and transaction that was affected by each issue so we can recalculate and repay any royalties owed.
Our intention is to identify and correct any problematic transactions within the royalties systems so that you will have complete and accurate records of these corrections.
We will follow up with you in next week's newsletter with a better understanding of how long it will take to correct these issues.
Thank you again for your patience as we work through these issues and overall for your patience and understanding throughout the entire Unification project.
