Canon is proud to present the highly anticipated EOS 5D Mark III. With supercharged EOS performance and stunning full frame, high-resolution image capture, the EOS 5D Mark III is designed to perform. Special optical technologies like the 61-Point High Density Reticular AF and an extended ISO range of 100-25600 (expandable to 50 (L), 51200 (H1) and 102400 (H2) make the EOS 5D Mark III ideal for shooting weddings in the studio or out in the field, and great for still photography. Advanced professional-level high definition video capabilities (that includes a host of industry-standard recording protocols and enhanced performance) make it possible to capture beautiful cinematic movies in EOS HD quality. A newly designed 22.3 Megapixel full-frame Canon CMOS sensor, Canon DIGIC 5+ Image Processor, and shooting performance up to 6.0 fps provide exceptional clarity and sharpness, even when capturing rapidly-unfolding scenes. Additional technological advancements include an Intelligent Viewfinder, Canon's advanced iFCL metering system, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and Multiple Exposure mode — all of which that help make the EOS 5D Mark III the perfect multimedia tool.
Nota de prensa en inglés:
TOKYO, March 2, 2012—Canon Inc. and Canon Marketing Japan Inc. announced today the introduction in Japan of the Canon EOS 5D Mark III digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera for advanced-amateur users. Featuring a newly developed 35 mm full-frame approximately 22.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5+ image processor, the new camera offers enhanced AF (autofocus) precision and a faster maximum continuous shooting speed while realizing outstanding image quality for both still photography and video capture.
Succeeding the highly acclaimed EOS 5D Mark II, released in November 2008, the Canon EOS 5D Mark III digital SLR camera achieves significant advances in imaging performance to support a wide range of imaging-expression possibilities. The newly developed 35 mm full-frame approximately 22.3-megapixel CMOS sensor employs an improved photo diode structure and eliminates the gaps between the microlenses to realize enhanced sensitivity and low-noise performance. Incorporating a DIGIC 5+ image processor, which achieves approximately 17 times the processing power of the DIGIC 4, the 5D Mark III delivers both high image quality and high-speed performance. In addition, DIGIC 5+ works together with the newly developed CMOS sensor to make possible high-resolution imaging with a wide dynamic range.
Compared with its predecessor’s ISO100–6400 sensitivity range, the EOS 5D Mark III features an ISO range that has been expanded by two steps to ISO100–25600,* delivering impressive imaging results with reduced noise even in low-light settings. In addition to supporting Full HD (1,980 x 1,080 pixels) video recording and the capture of HD (1,280 x 720 pixels) movies at 60 frames-per-second (fps), the new camera realizes high-quality, low-noise video shooting with a significant reduction in the occurrence of color artifacts and moiré compared with the Mark II. Furthermore, the 5D Mark III supports in-camera correction for not only insufficient peripheral illumination caused by the optical characteristics of some lenses, but also chromatic aberration, while correction for distortions is supported in-camera during RAW processing.
Employing the same highly acclaimed iFCL (intelligent Auto Focus Color Luminance) Metering with 63-zone dual-layer metering system as the EOS 7D, released in October 2009, the Canon EOS 5D Mark III provides even more accurate exposure performance. Similar to the top-of-the-line EOS-1D X, scheduled for release at the end of April 2012, the EOS 5D Mark III’s newly developed AF System incorporates a new 61-Point High Density Reticular AF, including 41 cross-type AF points, to support a range of shooting compositions and deliver greater accuracy when tracking moving subjects. In particular, the AF System excels when shooting portraits and moving subjects.
The EOS 5D Mark III’s newly developed CMOS sensor features 8-channel readout, an improvement over the 4-channel readout speed offered by its predecessor. By combining the CMOS sensor with the high-speed processing performance of DIGIC 5+, the camera achieves high-speed continuous shooting of up to approximately 6 fps while maintaining a high pixel count of approximately 22.3 megapixels. This feature, creating synergy with the camera’s enhanced AF function, delivers high-quality results when shooting portraits or moving subjects. In addition, compared with the 5D Mark II’s shutter release time lag of approximately 0.075 seconds, the new 5D Mark III realizes an improved shutter release time lag of approximately 0.059 seconds, similar to that offered by the EOS 7D.
Featuring a pentaprism that is approximately 13 percent larger in volume than that of its predecessor and an ocular lens incorporating four high-precision elements, the 5D Mark III’s optical viewfinder delivers approximately 100% viewfinder coverage, approximately 0.71 magnification and an approximately 21 mm eyepoint for enhanced ease of use and precise image composition. Additionally, when shooting in high-contrast scenes, the High Dynamic Range Mode is capable of correcting for over- and under-exposed areas of an image.
The Canon 5D Mark III is equipped with an approximately 1.04-million-dot, 3.2-inch Clear View LCD II with a wide 3:2 aspect ratio and tempered glass for improved ease of use and durability. The camera’s rugged shutter unit boasts an impressive 150,000-cycle shutter life while the body, featuring a lightweight, highly rigid magnesium alloy exterior, delivers increased protection from dust and moisture compared with its predecessor.
In addition, Canon announced today the introduction of the Battery Grip BG-E11, an optional accessory for use with the EOS 5D Mark III, which will be available in Japan from late April 2012 at a price of ¥29,000 (not incl. tax).
